What is Antiwordle?

Antiwordle inverts the standard word game instruction. You must avoid guessing the hidden five-letter word for as many turns as possible. Each guess tightens the constraints instead of loosening them.

How to play Antiwordle

  1. Enter a valid five-letter word using the on-screen keyboard.
  2. Read the color feedback. Grey bans the letter from all future guesses. Yellow makes the letter mandatory in every following guess. Red locks the letter to that exact square.
  3. Build the next guess to honor every constraint already obtained. A word that breaks a constraint is refused without a message.
  4. Continue as long as possible without assembling the hidden word. The longest run is the ideal outcome.

The feedback system works backward

Grey means the letter is not in the word, and the keyboard bans it. Yellow means the letter is in the word, so every later guess must contain it. Red means the letter is in the correct position and stays locked in that square. The keyboard mirrors the board state.

If you submit a guess that violates these constraints, it remains in the row without being validated. No error message appears, and no new row is created. The only counter that matters is the number of rows that were actually validated.

Strategy for a longer run

Red is costly because each locked letter removes an entire square from the search space. An opening built around common letters can work in the normal game, but over a longer run it leaves you with fewer useful possibilities to test.

Rare consonants and awkward letter positions give you more room to explore. Aim for grey results rather than colored ones. A refused guess costs nothing visible, but it does not advance the board either.

Modes and settings

The game offers one new word each day on the Daily grid. Hard Mode adds a settings checkbox that requires yellow letters to change positions and prevents reuse of repeated letters marked grey. The settings panel displays your current streak and reveals the previous day's word. A dark theme toggle sits in the same panel.
