What is Bridge Words?
Bridge Words is a word-association puzzle that presents ten clues in two columns and asks you to connect them. Five clues appear in Bank A on the left, five in Bank B on the right, and five empty bridges sit between them. The clues are not aligned by default: you must drag them vertically until matching pairs face each other, then type the word that links each pair. The first letters of your five bridge-words spell out the keystone, a thematic word displayed at the top.
How to play Bridge Words
- Drag a clue up or down until it sits opposite the related clue across the bridge.
- Enter the word that links the two clues in the input field.
- Tap Build. A correct answer locks the bridge and reveals a keystone letter at the top.
- Do the same with the other four rows. You’re done when all five bridges are built.
- The first letters of your bridge-words spell the day’s theme.
Scoring and feedback
The game starts you at 1,000 points and subtracts from that total rather than adding for correct answers. Each wrong guess costs 20 points. Time is free for the first two minutes, then the game deducts 10 points per minute up to a maximum penalty of 200 points. Hints also carry a cost: aligning a pair of clues for you costs 50 points, while revealing individual letters or word length costs 25 points each. A Pause button in the top corner lets you stop the timer without penalty.
The doubled challenge
Most association games give you the pair and ask for the link. Bridge Words shuffles all ten clues so you must identify which ones belong together before you can even attempt the connecting word. This doubles the cognitive load: pattern recognition to find the pairs, then vocabulary retrieval to bridge them. Because the score only decreases and the timer runs throughout, hesitation has a visible cost.
Tips for a higher score
The first two minutes carry no time penalty. Use that window to read all ten clues carefully before moving any of them. Matching pairs mentally before dragging saves repositioning moves later.
The first hint aligns one pair of clues for 50 points. Two wrong guesses cost only 40 points total. If you have a reasonable candidate word, try it twice before buying the alignment hint.
Once a bridge is built, its keystone letter appears at the top. These letters often suggest the theme early, which can help you match the remaining clues by looking for words that fit both the pair and the emerging pattern.
