What is Byrdle?
Byrdle is a five-letter word game built entirely around choral singing vocabulary. Each daily puzzle may include proper names, plurals, and musical terms from other languages. You have six guesses to find one new word that resets at midnight, and a clock icon lets you replay past grids.
How to play Byrdle
- Type a valid five-letter word using the on-screen keyboard.
- Press Enter to submit. The tiles change color to show letter placement.
- Read the feedback: correct position, correct letter in wrong position, or absent letter.
- Repeat for up to six guesses total.
- Return after midnight for the next daily word, or press the clock to play historical puzzles.
Why the specialized dictionary matters
Byrdle assumes you know choir vocabulary: composer names, score notation, four-part harmony terms, and related foreign words. The help panel presents this difficulty as a learning feature. Historical grids let you review years of choral terminology with one click, so the game also works as a practice tool alongside its daily challenge.

Tips for choral word guessing
Open with a choral term instead of a common English starter. A word from the game's domain—composer surnames, notation marks, or vocal forms—can reveal more useful information than a generic guess packed with vowels.
Do not discard candidates because they look like proper nouns or foreign words. The game explicitly accepts them as answers. A five-letter Italian tempo marking or a composer's last name is fair play.
Check your settings before you start. The game saves hard mode, dark theme, colorblind mode, and display font locally. Configure once, then play without interruption.
