What is CrissWord?
CrissWord is a mini-crossword puzzle where answer pairs share identical letters in highlighted green squares. You read two or more clues, then find words that match both the clue meanings and the shared-letter pattern. Some puzzles require multiple solutions, meaning you must guess extra correct word pairs to complete the grid.
How to play CrissWord
- Read the clues and examine the word patterns, noting which squares (green) must contain the same letter in each answer.
- Think about both answers together to satisfy the shared-letter requirement, type your guess into the input field, and press Return or Enter to submit.
- If you are stuck, press "Reveal Letter" to uncover a random green square, but this deducts points from your score.
- Continue submitting guesses until all patterns are filled. Multi-solution puzzles need additional correct pairs beyond the first set.
Why the shared-letter mechanic matters
The green squares force you to solve related answers as a unit rather than in isolation. A word that fits one clue may be impossible if its letters conflict with the partner answer's requirements. This interdependence turns CrissWord into a logic puzzle that mixes vocabulary and pattern matching. Occasional multi-solution grids add variety and reward persistence.
Tips for efficient solving
Consider both clues before typing. The green letters must align in both words, so guessing one answer independently often leads to a mismatch. Use "Reveal Letter" only when necessary, since each revealed letter costs points. Remember that some puzzles hide multiple valid pairs; you may need four correct guesses total to satisfy a double-solution grid.
The game includes a Daily mode and access to the last five days of puzzles. A timer runs during play but does not affect your score and can be disabled in settings.
