What is Cryptl?
Cryptl is Quizl's daily cryptogram challenge. It hides a quote or saying from a famous person or historical figure behind a number-to-letter substitution system, then asks you to reconstruct the missing letters through patterns, logic and general knowledge.
How to play Cryptl
- Read the encoded daily quote and note the letters already supplied.
- Infer which letter each number represents from repeated patterns and word shapes.
- Click an encoded cell and choose a letter from the on-screen keyboard.
- Experiment with the map until the full quote is coherent, then submit the completed Cryptl.
Why play Cryptl?
Choose Cryptl if you want a compact code-breaking puzzle whose feedback is intentionally delayed. It rewards pattern discipline and coherent whole-quote reasoning more than trial-and-error letter checking.
Reading the feedback
Cryptl deliberately withholds immediate correctness feedback: letters entered on the board are not confirmed as correct until you submit the completed puzzle. This lets you test and revise a whole substitution map before committing, so a partial fill should be treated as a hypothesis rather than a validated answer.
Tips & strategy
Use repeated number patterns as your strongest clue because each number corresponds to one letter.
Keep tentative mappings flexible; the tutorial explicitly says that entries are not validated until full submission.
Start from words with a distinctive repeated-letter shape or from letters already supplied in gray-bordered cells.
