What is Don't Wordle?
Don't Wordle inverts the standard word game objective: you must submit six valid five-letter words without ever landing on the hidden answer. The interface displays three counters—Guesses, Undos, and Valid Words Remaining—that track your progress. The Valid Words Remaining counter starts at 14855 and shrinks with each guess as the revealed clues eliminate possibilities.
How to play Don't Wordle
- Type a valid five-letter word and press ENTER.
- Watch the tiles change color based on the hidden answer. Their colors limit which words you can enter next.
- Check the Valid Words Remaining counter to see how many words still fit the clues.
- Use Undo to retract a move (five uses available), or Reset Daily to start over.
- Make six valid guesses without entering the hidden answer to win.
Why narrowing the word list can make you lose
Each accepted word removes words that no longer fit, bringing you closer to the hidden answer. After one guess, the Valid Words Remaining counter can drop from 14855 to around 240, turning the game into an exercise in avoiding the answer. To win, keep the list from narrowing too quickly instead of using the clues to identify the answer.
Reading the feedback
Played tiles display gray and gold colors as in traditional word games. The game rejects any word that contradicts previously revealed clues with an explicit message: "The word does not match the clues already revealed." Rejected words do not consume a guess—the Guesses counter remains unchanged.
Modes
Daily Grid: The main puzzle, which can be restarted using the Reset Daily button.
New Practice: A button labeled New Practice appears in the corner of the board next to the title for additional runs.
Tips for avoiding the answer
Valid Words Remaining is the real dashboard. The lower it drops, the riskier your next guess becomes, since the field of authorized words closes in on the answer.
A rejected word costs nothing. The Guesses counter does not move, so you can test the compatibility of an idea before committing.
The five Undos are a strategic resource. Use them to retract a move that narrowed the list of remaining words too aggressively, not just to fix typos.
Common questions
Does a rejected word consume a try?
No. A word rejected for incompatibility leaves the Guesses counter unchanged.
Why is my word being rejected?
It contradicts the clues already revealed. The game requires that each new guess respects the colors previously obtained.
How many words must you play?
Six. Submit six valid five-letter words without accidentally entering the hidden answer.
