What is Double Take?
Double Take is a word puzzle that asks you to find a single word or phrase that satisfies two different meanings at once. The game displays a prompt—"What word can mean both... and...?"—with the two definitions highlighted in red. You have five attempts to type the correct answer into a single field.
How to play Double Take
- Read the two meanings shown in the "TODAY'S PUZZLE" box.
- Think of a word or phrase that covers both definitions simultaneously.
- Type your answer using the on-screen keyboard, which includes a space bar for multiword answers.
- Press "Go" to submit and check the attempt counter, which tracks your progress from 0/5 to 5/5.
- Continue refining your guesses until you solve the puzzle or exhaust all five tries.
The answer can be more than one word
The on-screen keyboard includes a space bar, signaling that valid answers may be phrases rather than single words. The game itself refers to a "word/phrase," and the example on the home screen—DATE, which means both a calendar date and a fruit—shows the intended level: common vocabulary with dual meanings, not obscure terms.
Tips for solving faster
Watch the format clues. The space bar is an explicit hint that multiword expressions are in play. If a single-word answer does not emerge quickly, consider compound nouns or short phrases.
Focus on overlap rather than similarity. The two definitions must point to the exact same term, not two words that sound alike or share a theme. A correct answer unites both meanings under one label.
