What is Expresso?
Expresso hides a multi-word expression rather than a single word. You type letter sequences and receive three-level color feedback: correctly placed, present but misplaced within that word, or present in the expression but belonging to a different word. This third state distinguishes Expresso from classic letter games and shifts the puzzle from positioning letters to identifying which word they belong to.
How to play Expresso
- Open the daily game from the home screen.
- Type a sequence of letters matching one word in the expression.
- Read the color feedback: green for correct placement, yellow for present but misplaced within that word, purple for present elsewhere in the expression.
- Move letters between words across attempts until you reconstruct the full expression.
The third color is the core mechanic
When a letter is marked as present in the expression but not in the word where you placed it, you need to move it to a different word rather than adjust its position. This feedback layer changes the nature of deduction from spatial placement to word assignment.
Count the letters available per word before entering your guess. The examples in the instructions show the expression typed without spaces, so verify word lengths first.
Modes and replay
The default mode is a single daily puzzle accessible from the home screen. The home screen displays the current week day by day and includes a "Previous games" link and calendar icon for replaying earlier puzzles.
