What is Five in Five?

Five in Five is a timed daily word puzzle. Players must find five hidden words of increasing length—3 letters, then 4, then 5, then 6, then 7—within a five-minute limit. Valid guesses score points, add time, and reveal matching tiles; only the exact hidden word advances the player to the next length.

How to play Five in Five

  1. Start the daily puzzle. A five-minute timer begins and the first target length (3 letters) becomes available.
  2. Form words by selecting or entering letters from the available tiles or keyboard.
  3. Submit any valid English word. Matching letters that appear in the current hidden word are revealed on the board.
  4. Earn points and extra time for every accepted word, regardless of whether it is the target.
  5. Locate and submit the exact hidden word of the required length to unlock the next round (4 letters, then 5, and so on up to 7).
  6. Continue until all five hidden words are found or the timer reaches zero.
  7. Review the final score, remaining time, and streak after the run ends.

Revealing tiles and advancing rounds

The board begins largely hidden. Each valid submission that shares letters with the current target exposes those positions, giving progressive visual clues. Non-target words still contribute points and time, which helps offset the pressure of the countdown. Only the precise hidden word of the active length unlocks the subsequent stage; shorter or longer correct words do not advance progress. Rounds proceed strictly in order from three letters through seven letters. The interface shows locked indicators for future lengths until the prior target is solved.

Tips for steady progress

Focus early submissions on common short words to generate tile reveals and bank extra seconds. Once several letters are visible, use them to constrain possible candidates for the hidden word rather than guessing at random. Longer targets become easier once partial patterns appear, so preserving time through frequent valid plays is often more useful than holding back for perfect guesses. The daily challenge tracks streaks and personal bests in the browser; returning to the same site preserves that local record. A new puzzle is available each day.
