What is Lingo?
Lingo breaks five well-known expressions into twenty individual words and scatters them across a 4×5 grid. You select four words per turn and submit. The game responds with color feedback. Eight turns to reconstruct all five expressions.
How to play Lingo
- Look at the grid of twenty words and the five 0/4 progress markers above it, one for each expression.
- Select exactly four words from the grid.
- Tap Submit to lock your choice, or Deselect All to clear and try again.
- Study the color feedback returned after each submission, then make your next selection. Use Shuffle to rearrange the grid layout if needed.
Reading the feedback
After you submit, a row of four color markers appears below the grid, one for each word you selected. The game does not label these markers with text. The five counters at the top update from 0/4 to 1/4, 2/4, and higher as you identify words from each expression. Each counter has its own color. A timer tracks elapsed time, and a guess counter advances with every submission.
Why play Lingo?
The puzzle uses idioms and proverbs instead of simple word categories. Solving requires two kinds of thinking: interpreting color clues and recognizing familiar phrases by ear. The challenge is linguistic rather than purely logical.

Grille quotidienne: A daily numbered puzzle that takes about four minutes. You can share your result after completing it.
Tips and strategy
The x/4 markers tell you which expressions are almost complete and which still have no words placed. This information is not visible from the grid alone.
The game tracks a streak of consecutive days, records your best streak, and offers streak freezes. Playing daily carries its own incentive beyond the score on any single puzzle.
