What is Phoodle?
Phoodle is a daily word puzzle that applies Wordle's grid and colour system to a food-only dictionary. Each answer is a five-letter cooking technique, kitchen gadget, ingredient or dish. You have six rows to identify the word, with green marking correct letters in the right spot, yellow marking correct letters elsewhere, and grey marking absent letters.
How to play Phoodle
- Type a valid five-letter word using the on-screen keyboard.
- Check the tile colours: green confirms the letter belongs in that position, yellow means the letter appears elsewhere in the word, grey eliminates the letter entirely.
- Use food vocabulary for your guesses. The answer always falls within culinary terms.
- Solve the word within six attempts. A new Phoodle releases each day.
Why the narrowed dictionary matters
The smaller word pool changes how you approach each guess. Instead of testing any five-letter combination, you work within a vocabulary you can mentally list. A cook's instinct often beats a general high-frequency opener because food words favour specific letters and patterns. At the same time, common Wordle starters may waste rows on letters that rarely appear in culinary terms. The puzzle still plays in under two minutes, and a fresh word arrives daily.
Reading the feedback tiles
The grid and keyboard use three colours. Green means the letter is in the correct position. Yellow means it belongs to the word but is in a different position. Grey rules the letter out. The help panel shows each colour with a food example: TACOS for green, FIBER for yellow, and BAKED for grey.
Tips for sharper guesses
Start with a familiar guess that is also a food term. SAUCE, ROAST, and BREAD test common letters while staying within the culinary theme.
The answer may be a technique or tool, not just an ingredient. WHISK, BRAISE, and GRATE are possible answers, as are LEMON and MANGO.
After two rows, check the keyboard. It rules out absent letters faster than the grid reveals patterns and shows which food-related letters remain possible.
