What is Pixletters?
Pixletters is a web-based word puzzle where you identify a hidden five-letter word within five attempts. Instead of standard letter-color feedback, each guess returns a small pixel grid. Blue pixels mark correct letters in position, green pixels show required pixels in that letter, red pixels indicate forbidden pixels, and gray pixels remain unknown. The game tracks daily puzzles and basic statistics.
How to play Pixletters
- Enter a valid five-letter word and submit it.
- Review the pixel grid returned for each letter position.
- Refer to the legend when reading the colors: blue marks a correct letter in that spot; green means the letter must contain that pixel; red means it must not contain that pixel; gray indicates that the pixel is unknown.
- Combine the pixel clues from your guesses to narrow the possible letters.
- You can submit up to five guesses. Use Retry or Next Word to continue.
Reading pixel feedback
The pixel grid gives clues about individual letters rather than whole words. A blue pixel confirms that a letter belongs in that exact position. Green pixels restrict which letters can fit a slot by requiring particular pixel shapes. Red pixels rule out letters with forbidden patterns, while gray pixels provide no information yet. The interface also tracks your win rate, current streak, best streak, and guess distribution.
Game modes
In Core play, you submit five-letter guesses and receive pixel feedback for each letter. Additional pixel rows are colored as you make more guesses.
In PLUS mode, directional arrows show whether the game will color rows or columns. Each word you enter reveals more of them.
In PRO mode, each guess colors only one row or one column, so you receive less feedback.
Match letters to the pixel legend exactly. If green pixels appear, eliminate any candidate letter that lacks those pixels. If red pixels appear, remove any candidate containing those forbidden pixels. Blue pixels give you a definite answer for that position.
Start with common five-letter words to gather baseline pixel data. As feedback accumulates, cross-reference pixel requirements across all five positions. In PLUS or PRO modes, track which rows or columns have been revealed to avoid re-checking known constraints.
Check your guess distribution and streak statistics to identify patterns in your solving approach. The game stores progress locally, so use the same browser to retain your history.
