What is Quordle?

Quordle presents four five-letter grids side by side with a single shared keyboard. Each word you type appears in all four grids at once, and each grid evaluates it against its own hidden answer. One guess therefore produces four different color patterns. The game is hosted by Merriam-Webster at merriam-webster.com/games/quordle, where a dated selector offers five daily modes plus a locked weekly challenge.

How to play Quordle

  1. Choose a mode on the dated screen: Classic, Extreme, Chill, Sequence, or Rescue.
  2. Enter a five-letter word. The same guess appears in all four grids.
  3. Read the color feedback in each grid. Each one compares your guess with its own target word.
  4. Keep guessing until you solve all four words or reach the guess limit for your chosen mode.

Why the four-grid layout matters

Quordle is difficult because all four words share one guess budget. Classic mode gives you nine guesses, only a little more than two per word. A guess may help one grid while revealing little on the others, since the four words rarely need the same letters at the same time.

The modes change that pressure. Chill gives you twelve guesses. Extreme cuts the budget to eight and uses words described as more unusual. Sequence shows one grid at a time. Rescue lets you take over a game the computer has started badly.

Modes

Classic: 9 guesses for 4 words.

Extreme: 8 guesses, with more unusual words.

Chill: 12 guesses, with fewer unusual words.

Sequence: Solve one word at a time instead of working on four grids in parallel.

Rescue: Take over a badly started game from the computer.

Weekly Challenge: Unlocks after you solve a Daily Classic puzzle.

Reading the feedback

Feedback appears separately on each grid. The same guess can help on one grid and reveal nothing on another, while still using one of the shared guesses.

Tips for managing four grids at once

Before typing the next word, reread all four grids rather than focusing only on the one that just changed. The mode choice sets the budget before the first guess: selector cards list 9 for Classic, 8 for Extreme, and 12 for Chill, with Extreme also using rarer vocabulary.

The weekly challenge stays locked until a Daily Classic grid has been solved. That is the only unlock method shown.
