What is Rabbit Hole?
Rabbit Hole is a daily word puzzle where you hop from a start word to a target word using as few intermediate words as possible. Each hop must form a valid rhyme, synonym, or antonym connection. The game checks submissions against a human-curated connections library and several linguistic databases to validate each step.
How to play Rabbit Hole
- Start with the word shown in the daily puzzle and the target word you need to reach.
- Enter a word linked to the current one by rhyme, synonym, or antonym.
- Submit your hop and wait while it is checked against the connections library and external sources.
- Keep hopping until you reach the target. If you need to backtrack, use undo; when you are stuck, try a hint.
- Once you finish, collect your rewards, review your stats, and share your route.
Connection types and validation
The game accepts three relationship types: rhyme, synonym, and antonym. When you submit a word, it is first checked against a growing human-curated connections library built from player feedback. For words not yet in that library, the system queries Datamuse, RhymeBrain, WordNet, and ConceptNet to evaluate whether the hop is valid. This two-tier approach balances human judgment with computational linguistic data.
Tips for efficient routes
Find creative paths. Each puzzle offers thousands of possible routes, so explore different relationship types rather than forcing a single direction. Most players complete a puzzle in seven to eight hops, making that a useful benchmark for efficiency.
Use the undo feature freely. Reversing a hop costs nothing and lets you test alternative branches without penalty. If you reach a dead end, reveal a hint word to discover an intermediate step the puzzle designers intended.
Focus on one connection type at a time. If synonym links are not working, switch to rhyme or antonym relationships. The interface does not penalize experimentation, and puzzles are hand-crafted to support multiple valid solutions.
Reading feedback and progress
The interface shows your current hop count and validates each submission in real time. After completing a puzzle, you see stats, rewards, and aggregate data such as typical completion ranges. If you have already played the daily puzzle, the site displays a countdown to the next one. This feedback loop helps you refine your strategy and compare your performance to the player base.
Reporting connection issues
If a word connection feels incorrect or a valid hop is rejected, the site encourages players to report the issue by email. Player feedback directly feeds the human-curated connections library, improving validation accuracy over time. This collaborative approach means the game's connection knowledge grows with community input rather than relying solely on static linguistic databases.
