What is Redactle?
Redactle displays a complete Wikipedia article with every word replaced by a black block showing its letter count. Only function words like prepositions and linking verbs remain visible. You suggest words, and all occurrences are revealed throughout the article at once. The goal is to uncover the bracketed title, which ends the game immediately. You do not need to reveal the rest of the article.
How to play Redactle
Structure matters more than vocabulary
Enter a word in the field at the top of the right column. The article reveals every occurrence and records the guess with its count.
Use the article’s structure as a clue. A two-word title followed by dates in parentheses usually identifies a person. Try the probe words suggested by the game: “born” for people, “city” or “country” for places, “species” for living things, and “film” or “war” for events. Narrow the category until the title in brackets appears and the puzzle is complete.
Redactle is a deduction game built around identifying a hidden article. The visible function words and letter counts form a skeleton you can read before finding any content words. The right strategy is to test categories and narrow down the subject. When a word appears multiple times and the structure suddenly becomes clear, the game delivers a satisfaction few word puzzles can match.
Reading the feedback
Each guess is added to a numbered list with its occurrence count. A word absent from the article returns zero and provides no clue. Black blocks show letter counts, turning the text into a grid of constraints. A title counter and timer remain visible at the top right, next to the hint, give-up, and multiplayer buttons.
Tips for a faster solve
Use category probes early. The game itself suggests words like born, city, or species because they split the space of possible articles in two. An "is a" followed by an eight-letter block gives strong clues before you have found any content words.
Watch the letter counts on the blocks. A very long word in the first sentence is often a nationality or category. The function words left in the clear are your real entry point.
Remember that only the bracketed title counts. Clearing the article is unnecessary. The rules panel states that most solutions take around 35 guesses and five to ten minutes, and it acknowledges that the game is difficult. No account is required to play the daily puzzle.
