What is Scooch?
Scooch is a daily word puzzle where you slide letter tiles to form hidden words. Instead of typing, you drag tiles across a grid until the day's target words appear. The game tracks your progress in a "Words found" panel and offers both browser and iOS versions.
How to play Scooch
- Select "Play in browser" from the home screen, or download the iOS app if you prefer.
- Complete the five-screen tutorial to learn the tile-pushing mechanic, or skip it to start immediately.
- Drag letter tiles around the grid to arrange them into valid words.
- Check the "Words found" panel to see which words you have successfully formed.
- Continue until you discover all target words for that day's puzzle.
Two daily modes
Scooch provides two separate grids each day, labeled "chill" and "challenge." Both share the same day number and are stored independently in your browser. You can play one or both modes for any given date.
Reading feedback
The "Words found" panel starts empty and displays "Keep scoochin' those tiles!" until you form your first word. Each validated word is added to this list. You can enable an optional move counter in settings to track how many tile pushes you make.
Tips for solving
Focus on common letter patterns and short words first. Dragging a tile pushes other tiles out of the way, so plan your moves to avoid breaking words you have already formed. If you get stuck, try rearranging the entire grid rather than making small adjustments. The browser version saves your progress automatically, so you can return later without losing your work.
The gesture-based interface makes Scooch feel different from typing games. The tutorial introduces the coined verb "scooch" to describe the sliding motion, setting a playful tone that carries through the entire experience.
