What is Sortle?

Sortle is a daily five-letter puzzle. The October 3 post calls it a daily puzzle with no green boxes and shares result #276 as 3/8.

How to play Sortle

  1. Open Today. Practice is a separate mode on the same page.
  2. You have eight guesses. The board tracks the guess count out of 8, the puzzle number, and a streak.
  3. Each guess is placed in an alphabetical window. The page shows the secret between an After word and a Before word.
  4. Use that order, not color tiles. The post's result marks use triangles, dots, and a finished row of blocks, and it states there are no green boxes.
  5. Narrow the window until the secret is the only word that still fits. The opening line on the board is that the whole dictionary is still open.

Read the window, not a color grid

The share for #276 is three guesses used out of eight. The two earlier rows in that share are marked with mixed triangles and dots, then a solid solved row. The post does not define each symbol. The on-page constraint is alphabetical position: a guess tells you whether the secret comes after it or before it.

Archive, streak, and the Today / Practice switch are on the board. The post itself only supplies the result card and the address.
