What is SpellBee Duel?
SpellBee Duel is a free real-time 1v1 word game. Both players receive the same seven-letter hive and have five minutes to form valid words. Every word one player finds is immediately locked so the opponent cannot score it. The player with the higher total at the end wins.
How to play SpellBee Duel
- Enter a player name and choose a mode: Quick match against a random opponent, Play a friend via private link, or Play a bot for practice.
- Both players see the identical seven letters arranged in a hive, with one required center letter.
- Form words of at least four letters that include the center letter. Letters may be reused within a word; not every letter needs to appear in every word.
- Submit words as quickly as possible. The moment a word is accepted, it is locked and becomes unavailable to the other player.
- Score points while the five-minute timer runs. A four-letter word is worth 1 point; longer words score 1 point per letter. A pangram that uses all seven letters earns its normal score plus a 7-point bonus.
- When the clock reaches zero, the player with the higher score wins. Start another match or invite a friend with a room code for the next round.
Scoring and locked words
Points reward both length and completeness. Finding longer words and the pangram early is usually more valuable than collecting many short ones. Because accepted words disappear for the opponent, speed and priority matter. Targeting high-value words before the other player can claim them is a core part of the contest.
The game runs entirely in the browser with no account required. Progress and recent results stay local to the device. Real-time updates show each word as it is found, so both players always see the current state of the match.
Tips for stronger play
Focus first on the center letter and common short combinations to build a base score, then shift to longer words and the pangram. Shuffle the outer letters mentally or by rearranging them on screen to spot new patterns. Avoid spending time on words that do not contain the center letter or fall short of four letters; those are rejected at once.
If the match is close, protect high-scoring words by claiming them early rather than banking many low-value ones. Practice mode against the bot lets you learn letter sets without time pressure before entering competitive matches.
