What is The Bee Jar?
The Bee Jar is a daily word-harvesting game played on a hexagonal hive. You trace paths through adjacent letter tiles to form words, but unlike traditional word-path games, you can revisit the same tile multiple times within a single word. Each day brings a uniquely shaped hive at midnight Eastern Time, shared by all players worldwide.
How to play The Bee Jar
- Select your hive from the top menu, choosing between the daily hive and available variants.
- Press Start hive to reveal the board and begin the timer.
- Trace words by dragging across hexagons that share an edge, or tap them individually. Paths may pass over the same tile more than once.
- Submit words of three letters or longer using Enter, the undo and clear buttons, or automatic submission if enabled in settings.
- Continue finding words for as long as you want. The hive remains open and you can return to it through the archive.
Scoring and feedback
Each accepted word updates your score, word count, best word, and time. Letter values appear in small circles beneath each tile. Words of five, seven, or nine letters receive length multipliers. A rarity bonus depends on whether the word is common, uncommon, rare, or unique among all players.
The left column shows community milestones and cumulative statistics, which refresh in batches. Your results appear on the hive leaderboard immediately. Shared results never reveal the letters you played.

Daily Hive
The main daily board resets at midnight Eastern Time and is shared by everyone.
Daily Wildcomb
A second daily hive with separate numbering and its own leaderboard.
Honey Rush
A three-minute timed challenge that requires sign-in. The timer keeps running if you open a panel, switch tabs, refresh the page, or lose your connection. Your score locks when time expires.
Hive archive
All past hives remain playable. Scores and leaderboards continue to update as you find new words.

Available from the navigation bar and announced in the daily banner.
The Bee Jar is a harvesting game with no single solution. Two design choices distinguish it: the ability to revisit tiles within a path, which expands the possible word geometry, and a timer that pauses when you shift attention away from a normal hive. Honey Rush inverts this by never pausing the clock.
Tips for better scores
The timer on a normal hive pauses when you open a panel, change tabs, refresh, or leave the page. It resumes only when you choose Resume. This does not apply to Honey Rush, where nothing stops the three-minute countdown.
Rare letters such as J, Q, X, and Z carry higher values shown beneath each tile. A short word with an expensive letter can outscore a longer word of common letters.
Revisiting tiles is allowed as often as the path permits. Look for double letters and looping paths that are impossible in standard word-trace games.
Some hives include special rules announced in a panel before you start. Gold tiles may double a letter's value, and crowns may boost uncommon, rare, or unique words. Read the special rules panel before starting the timer.
Common questions
Does the timer keep running if I change tabs?
Not on a normal hive. The game pauses when you open a panel, change tabs, refresh, or leave the page, and waits for you to press Resume. In Honey Rush, the three-minute attempt continues regardless.
Do I need an account?
The daily hive can be played without signing in, though a Sign In button remains available. Honey Rush requires sign-in before the board is revealed.
What is the minimum word length?
Three letters. Words shorter than three letters are not submitted.
Is a missed hive gone for good?
No. All hives remain playable through the archive, and scores and leaderboards continue to update when you add words later.
