What is Tilerdle?
Tilerdle is a word-building puzzle that scatters themed words across a board as individual letter tiles. Each tile slides to move and rotates 90° with a sharp tap. Tiles only show feedback when their dotted edges connect, and every daily board is guaranteed to have exactly one solution.
How to play
- Check the difficulty strip, labeled MON EASY through SUN HARD, to see where today’s puzzle falls in the week.
- Read the theme above the board. It determines which words appear.
- Drag a tile to move it across the board.
- Tap a tile to rotate it 90 degrees without moving it.
- Bring two tiles together until their letters meet along a dotted edge. The edges must connect before they change color.
- If you get stuck, use HINT. It highlights a valid connection between two tiles. Press it again for another suggestion.
- Keep going until all the tiles merge into one block.
Four colors appear only when tiles connect. Green means the letter is correct and in the right place. It also marks a head tile anchored correctly at the start of a word. Yellow means the letter belongs to the word but is in the wrong position. Gray means the letter does not belong to the word. Red marks a head tile that cannot start a word from its current position.
The key rule is that isolated tiles show no feedback. A tile without a color has not made contact yet. Feedback appears only when an active dotted-edge connection is formed.
Anchoring and orientation matter first
A tile with the right letters can still turn red if it starts the sequence from the wrong end. Tilerdle reads each word from its head tile, so the correct letters in the wrong starting position count as a failure.
Orientation comes before position. Two tiles placed side by side may remain silent when their open edges face away from each other. Rotate one piece, and the connection may activate immediately.
Grow one block rather than scattering work across the board. The strategy page notes that HINT itself favors extending an already merged section. The theme narrows the field before the first move, making it likely that a fragment starts a specific word rather than a coincidence.
Unique solution guarantee
The design page states that each board admits only one solution. Words in the daily pool cannot share a three-letter sequence in either direction, because a rotating tile can be read both ways. This filter sometimes excludes the most obvious word for a theme, with uniqueness taking precedence over expectations.

Common confusion
Dragging moves, a sharp tap rotates. This is the number one reported mix-up. If a tile rotates when you meant to move it, simply tap several times to bring it back to the correct orientation.
