What is Toadle?
Toadle is a four-letter word puzzle that replaces colored tiles with a single number. You have ten attempts to find the hidden word. Each guess returns one score: two points for every letter in the correct position, one point for every correct letter in the wrong position. A score of eight means all four letters are placed correctly and the puzzle is solved.
How to play Toadle
- Enter a four-letter word on the virtual keyboard and submit it.
- Check the number at the end of the row. It is the total score, not a score for each letter.
- Compare it with your earlier scores. The difference between scores is the main clue.
- Tap letters in your previous guesses to mark them green, yellow, or gray. You add these marks yourself; the game does not color the tiles automatically.
- You have up to ten attempts. To stop early, tap “Reveal answer” below the keyboard.
Reading the feedback
Each guess receives one integer. Two points for a correct letter in the correct position, one point for a correct letter in the wrong position. The score combines these values without saying which letters contribute what. No tile changes color on its own. The green, yellow, and strikethrough marks are annotations you place by hand to track your deductions across multiple guesses.

Strategy tips
Build guesses around specific hypotheses instead of hoping for a lucky match. Change just one letter between two attempts to isolate its effect. The score difference shows whether the new letter is correct and in the right position, present but misplaced, or absent.
Different words can produce the same score, so a high score by itself tells you little. Test it with a second guess designed to distinguish between the possible interpretations. Use the manual color marks to track what you have ruled in or out; a column of numbers is easy to lose track of.
Common questions
Does Toadle use colored tiles like other word games?
No. Toadle gives you only the total score—no green or yellow tiles. Any colors you see are marks you added yourself.
