What is Translate or Die?
Translate or Die is a timed vocabulary game that tests your speed under pressure. A word appears in one of nine languages with four English translations below it. An orange timer bar counts down, and you must choose the correct answer before it runs out. Each mistake or timeout costs one heart out of three. The game continues until you lose all hearts, tracking your current streak against your best score.
How to play Translate or Die
- Select a target language from the nine options—Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Filipino, Italian, or Portuguese—or choose All to practice multiple languages at once.
- Press Start Game to see the first word and its language pair at the top of the card.
- Read the word and its transcription if it uses a non-Latin script, then tap one of the four numbered translations.
- Answer before the timer runs out. Wrong answers and timeouts each cost one heart.
- Continue until all three hearts are gone. The game tracks your streak and displays your best score as you play.
Because each question is timed, quick recognition matters more than prolonged deliberation.
The difficulty comes from the time constraint rather than the vocabulary itself. Four choices and a countdown bar force split-second decisions, turning recognition into a reflex test.
