What is Tusmo?

Tusmo is a daily French word game. Each puzzle gives you six attempts to find one word. Its first letter is revealed, and every guess must begin with it. The colour feedback follows the Motus system: red means a letter is in the correct position, while yellow means it appears in the word but is misplaced.

The site also offers a free archive of past puzzles, a daily four-word chain, unlimited practice, ranked duels, a continuous public race room, private rooms, and rotating events such as Marathon, Speedrun, and tournaments. Tusmo is available in French and English, is free to play, and does not require registration.

How to play Tusmo

  1. Open Mot du jour from the home menu. The board shows the first letter, and the row length tells you how many letters the word has.
  2. Enter a French word of that length beginning with the given letter. You can use the on-screen keyboard or your own keyboard. Invalid words are rejected.
  3. Check the colours after each guess: red means the letter is in the correct position, yellow means it appears elsewhere in the word, and no colour means it is absent.
  4. Use the keyboard as a record of the letters you have tried. Its colours update after each guess.
  5. You have six attempts to solve the word. A win preserves your daily streak, which is stored locally until you create a free account.
  6. Try the other modes. Suite du jour gives you four linked daily words, Infini offers unlimited puzzles, and Archives lets you replay any previous day.

Most daily word games offer one puzzle and nothing more. Tusmo provides the puzzle plus a place to stay: the archive makes missed days recoverable, duels let you race strangers on identical words, and the public room converts the grid into a three-word sprint against all online players. It suits players who want more than one grid daily and accept leaderboards, seasons, and cosmetics around their word game. Purists seeking a single quiet daily should look elsewhere. The daily takes minutes, requires no account, and a guest account created on first visit preserves your streak.

Reading the feedback

After each attempt, letters are coloured according to their position: red means the letter is correct, yellow means it appears in the word but is in the wrong place, and no colour means it is absent. The keyboard uses the same colours, so tested letters remain visible. The game rejects words that are not in the dictionary or have the wrong length. In duels and public rooms, these colour rules are the same. When one player solves the word, the other gets two minutes to finish. A skull icon appears when a player runs out of attempts.

Modes

Mot du jour gives everyone the same French word each day. You have six attempts, the first letter is revealed, and the mode records your streak.

Suite du jour links four daily words, each between six and nine letters, in one session.

Infini lets you play an unlimited number of words at your own pace.

Archives contains every previous daily word, which you can replay as often as you like.

Entraînement scores each attempt. It is available to Ko-fi members, and each session lasts 24 hours.

Duel classé matches you with a stranger on the same word. Each player has six attempts. The winner must solve it in fewer tries, and after one player finds the word, the other has two minutes left.

Salon public is a continuous public room. Each round presents three words in sequence, with six attempts for each. Everyone plays the same round, and the first person to solve all three wins. A new round starts about every 90 seconds.

Entre amis is a private room you create and share by link.

Événements are rotating additions to the core modes. They include timed Marathon and Speedrun rounds, Boss Rush, black-ball Bingo, the world chest, team events, and tournaments, with leaderboards and rewards.

The archive is the main reason to choose Tusmo over games without one. You can replay past days as often as you like, so missing a week does not matter.

Suite du jour gives you four daily words of six to nine letters in sequence. Treat it as one longer, harder version of the daily puzzle rather than four separate ones. Fatigue becomes the main challenge.

In ranked duels, solving the word is insufficient: you must solve in strictly fewer attempts than your opponent, and once one player finishes the other has two minutes. Play opening rows for information rather than lucky strikes.

In the public room, each round chains three words with six attempts each, and exhausting attempts on one word ends your race with a skull. A safe second word beats a bold one there.

Your streak lives only in the browser you play in until you create a free account, and settings offer streak restoration. Register before switching devices.

Detailed statistics and scored training are reserved for Ko-fi members from the Lettre tier, starting at 2 euros monthly; the word of the day, archive, duels, and rooms remain free.

Common questions

How many attempts do I get?
Six, for one daily word shared by all players, and the same six per word in duels and the public room.

Can I play a day I missed?
Yes, freely. The Archives page reopens every past daily word and invites unlimited replays.

Do I need an account?
No. A guest account is created automatically on first visit with no email or password, preserving your games. A free account with email, password, or Google/Discord login backs your streak across devices.

What do supporters get?
The site is free and free of intrusive ads; Ko-fi memberships start at 2 euros monthly and fund servers. From the Lettre tier they unlock detailed statistics and scored training, plus cosmetics, larger rooms, and coupons, the game's internal currency. The daily word, archive, duels, and rooms stay free.

Is there an English version?
Yes. The same site runs in French and English, and its terms describe it as a word game in both languages.

Which address should I use?
Use www.tusmo.xyz. The address without the www does not respond.
