What is Underword?

Underword is a daily word puzzle. Each day presents the same set of six rounds for every player. Two words hide in a single row of coins—one on the fronts and one on the backs. Some coins begin face-down, so the visible letters form a mixed string. The task is to recover either hidden word by flipping coins or typing a correct guess.

How to play Underword

  1. Observe the row of coins. Each coin shows one letter; some start turned over so their opposite face is hidden.
  2. Tap any coin to flip it. The letter on the reverse side appears and the previous letter disappears.
  3. Watch the current string of visible letters. Look for a real word that sits only one or two flips away.
  4. Type either of the two hidden words at any time. A correct guess solves the round immediately and costs no extra turns beyond those already spent.
  5. Each flip and each wrong guess consumes one turn. The number of remaining turns is shown at the top of the screen.
  6. Solve the current round to advance. There are six rounds each day; later rounds begin with more coins already turned.
  7. Finish the day’s six rounds, then share the result squares or continue on another day to build a streak.

The two-word structure

One word occupies the front faces of the coins; the other occupies the back faces. Flipping a coin swaps the visible letter between those two words. In the tutorial example the fronts spell SAND and the backs spell MILK. With the first and third coins already flipped, the row reads MALD. Returning those two coins produces SAND and solves the round. Typing SAND or MILK also works at once. In real play the starting orientation is unknown, so the visible string must be treated as a mixture of both words.

Practical notes

The daily puzzle is free and requires no account. Progress is stored in the browser, so a page reload continues the same day’s game. A share button copies a grid of result squares without revealing the words. Six rounds appear each day; each round carries its own turn limit. Later rounds start with additional coins already flipped, increasing the number of letters that must be restored. The same words are issued to every player on a given calendar day.
