What is Unsaid?

Unsaid is a word game for iOS and Android in which letters drop into a board of seven columns. Players form English words of three letters or more that read across or down; those words clear from the board. Every word may be used only once per game, so the choice of what to spell matters. The game is free with ads and requires iOS 17 or later or Android 8 or later.

How to play Unsaid

  1. Letters arrive one at a time. Tap a column to drop the current letter onto the top of that stack. The next four letters wait in a visible queue so you can plan.
  2. Form any valid English word of three or more letters that reads left to right or top to bottom. Diagonals and reversed spellings do not count. When a word clears, the letters above it fall into the gap; if those falling letters create new words, they clear as well and may start a chain.
  3. Every word counts only once in a single game. A repeated word either scores nothing and breaks the current chain or refuses to clear, depending on the difficulty level you chose.
  4. Use the Hold button to park the current letter for later; you receive three holds per game. In Endless mode you also receive three hints that highlight the best column for the current letter.
  5. The game ends the moment any column reaches the top of the board. There is no timer.

Modes and difficulty

Daily mode gives every player the same sequence of letters once per level each day. Progress is saved until local midnight, after which the board resets. Short words gradually stop clearing as the run continues: three-letter words close first, then four-letter words, and so on. Closed words turn grey and remain on the board.

Endless mode supplies a fresh random sequence each time. You may leave and resume later or start over at any moment. Three holds and three hints are available on every difficulty.

Word of the Day is a single shared target word. Spelling it anywhere on the board in any mode awards a one-time bonus that day. Finding it on consecutive days raises a multiplier.

Three difficulty levels control how repeats are treated and how many daily hints you receive:

  • Easy – repeats still score full points; three daily hints.
  • Hard – repeats score nothing and reset the chain; two daily hints.
  • Impossible – repeats do not clear; one daily hint.

Each level keeps its own high scores and leaderboards.

Scoring and chains

Base points depend only on word length: 100 for three letters, 250 for four, 500 for five, 900 for six, and 1,500 for seven. Rare letters add small bonuses, and a word that spans all seven columns scores double.

When one drop clears several words or falling letters create further words, a chain forms. Points for that step equal the sum of the words’ values multiplied by the number of words and by the chain step. Longer chains carry higher multipliers and named awards. Clearing the entire board in one drop grants additional multipliers, larger still if the board was mostly full beforehand.

Named “bonus hands” can further multiply a step when certain patterns appear—matched lengths, rhyming endings, sequential starting letters, or a word that saves a nearly full column. Only the highest applicable hand multiplies any single step.

Tips for careful play

Plan several drops ahead by watching the letter queue. Holding a difficult letter can open space for a longer word or a cascade later. In Daily mode, longer words remain available after shorter ones have closed, so saving high-value letters for them often pays more than clearing every short opportunity early.

Because each word may be used only once, familiar short words that appear early can block future options; sometimes it is better to leave a short combination unplayed so the letters stay available for a longer construction. On higher difficulties a single repeated word can end a chain or leave letters stuck, so tracking what has already been spelled becomes essential.

The first game begins on the current Daily at Easy difficulty, with a highlighted column that shows when the incoming letter can finish a word. After finishing a run you can share a challenge link containing the exact letter sequence and your score for a friend to beat. Leaderboards exist for Daily, Endless, and Word of the Day on both Game Center and Google Play Games. A home-screen widget shows today’s target word, your best Daily score, and the time remaining until midnight.
