What is Wonderhop?

Wonderhop is a free daily word game. Each day offers four separate rounds of seven questions that are identical for every player. You have 30 seconds per question. The goal changes by mode: climb by matching the most common answer, dive by choosing a rare one, or travel through time by naming the oldest or most recent response.

How to play Wonderhop

  1. Open the site and select one of the four daily modes: Sky, Abyss, Past, or Future.
  2. Read the prompt for the current question. A timer of 30 seconds begins.
  3. Type a single answer that fits the mode’s rule.
  4. Submit before time runs out. The game compares your answer with those given by other players for the same question.
  5. Receive a score of up to 100 points for that answer. After seven questions the mode ends with a total out of 700.
  6. Repeat for the remaining modes if desired. All four rounds use the same set of questions that day.
  7. Check the leaderboard or share your results. Progress is stored locally on the device under a chosen nickname.

Understanding the four modes

Sky rewards the most frequently given answer. The more popular your choice, the higher you rise. Abyss rewards rarity: the less common your answer among all responses, the deeper you descend. Past asks for the oldest answer in chronological terms; Future asks for the most recent. In the time-based modes each correct placement moves you several centuries relative to the other answers submitted for that question.

The same seven questions appear across every mode on a given day. Only the scoring rule changes. This means a single list of prompts can be approached four different ways, producing four independent scores.

Scoring and practical notes

Each answer is worth a maximum of 100 points, so a perfect mode totals 700. Points reflect how closely the submitted word matches the target criterion—popularity for Sky, rarity for Abyss, or temporal position for Past and Future—relative to the full set of answers collected that day.

A nickname can be set for the leaderboard; it remains on the current device and can be changed at any time. No account is required. Additional options such as unlimited play, an archive of past days, and themed packs appear on the main screen; the core daily experience stays free and limited to the four modes.

Because answers are judged against the collective responses of other players, the optimal choice can shift as more people finish the same questions. Submitting early or late may therefore affect the final ranking for that mode. The 30-second limit encourages a quick decision rather than extended deliberation.
