What is Word Hurdle?
Word Hurdle is a six-letter word puzzle that uses the familiar colour-feedback grid. You have six attempts to guess a six-letter word, with each row requiring all six cells to be filled before submission. The game is not affiliated with The New York Times.
How to play Word Hurdle
- Type a six-letter word using the on-screen keyboard. The row will not submit until all six cells contain a letter.
- Press ENTER to reveal the colour feedback for each letter position.
- Use the feedback to build your next guess. Remember that six-letter words contain repeated letters more often than five-letter words.
- Check the counter above the grid. It displays your remaining attempts out of six.
- Continue refining your guesses until you solve the word or run out of attempts.
Why the sixth letter matters
One extra letter changes the challenge completely. The pool of six-letter English words is much larger than five-letter words, so memorised opening patterns stop working and the middle rows become genuinely difficult. The same six-guess budget now covers more ground. Word Hurdle reveals how much of your Wordle skill relies on pattern memory rather than pure deduction, and a round still finishes in a few minutes.
Reading the feedback
Each six-cell row uses three colours. Green marks a letter in the correct position. Yellow marks a letter that appears in the answer but is in the wrong cell. Grey marks a letter that is not in the answer. The on-screen keyboard updates after each guess. The number of guesses remaining appears as plain text above the board instead of being shown through empty rows.
Modes
Daily grid — Solve one six-letter word each day. Open the statistics panel with the chart icon.
Settings — Open the gear menu beside the help icon to change display preferences.
Tips for six-letter words
Retire your Wordle opener. A five-letter starter wastes one cell. Build openings around six-letter words that carry two vowels or common endings like -ING, -TION, or -NESS. These fragments return more information per guess.
Six-letter words repeat letters more frequently than five-letter words. A single yellow tile does not rule out a second copy of that letter elsewhere in the answer.
Target suffixes early. Pinning the last two cells to a common ending collapses the remaining possibilities faster than chasing the first letter. If you confirm -ED or -LY, the field narrows sharply.
