What is WordAxle?
WordAxle is a word puzzle that combines horizontal and vertical solving. You work through three stacked words of increasing length—four, five, and six letters—while a vertical axle runs down the center and crosses all three. Each solved horizontal word reveals one letter of the axle. The axle itself can be guessed in a single attempt at any moment.
How to play WordAxle
Note the axle letters visible at the start. They sit between the horizontal words and do not cross them.
Solve the four-letter word at the top with the virtual keyboard, then select SUBMIT. Solve the five-letter word and the six-letter word the same way. Record the axle letter revealed by each solved word.
When you are ready, select GUESS THE AXLE WORD. You can make this guess once, and a failed guess does not count against your score. The counter at the top of the board shows your total number of guesses.
The axle links the horizontal and vertical solves. Filling in horizontal words reveals letters in the axle, while solving the axle can reveal letters for the horizontal words still incomplete. You get one axle guess, so timing matters: guess too early and you may waste it; wait too long and you use extra guesses to uncover letters the axle could have supplied.
Reading the feedback
Horizontal words use standard color feedback: correct letter in the right position, correct letter in the wrong position, or letter not in the word. The axle starts partially filled and adds letters automatically as you solve horizontal words. A successful axle guess reveals all its letters and offers a bonus—select up to three letters and learn which of them belong to the horizontal word you are currently solving.
Tips for better scores
The axle letters shown at the start do not cross any horizontal word. They are given, not earned. Count them before you begin.
The axle attempt does not penalize your score if it fails, but you only get one. Guessing it with insufficient information wastes the opportunity. Waiting until all horizontal words are solved means you paid in guesses for clues the axle could have given earlier.
Every guess on a horizontal word adds to your final score. There are no free attempts. Launch guesses deliberately rather than testing letters at random.

There is no hard limit. The counter at the top tracks your total guesses, which becomes your score. Fewer guesses result in a better score.
What happens if I miss the axle?
Nothing. The axle attempt is unique but does not add to your guess count if it fails.
