What is Pips?
Pips is the New York Times' domino logic puzzle. Arrange the available dominoes to fill a board while satisfying the condition attached to every colored region.
How to play Pips
- Choose Easy, Medium or Hard.
- Rotate and drag dominoes onto the board.
- Satisfy every region condition, then adjust any incorrect placement until the board is complete.
Why play Pips?
It offers the tactile satisfaction of dominoes with a forgiving logic-puzzle loop. Every wrong arrangement is a prompt to reason again, not a failed run.
Reading the feedback
A region can require equal, unequal, greater-than or less-than values, or a specified total. An incorrect arrangement is not a loss. The game reports it as incorrect and lets you continue rearranging. A timed finish can add a cookie to the result.
Modes
Three daily puzzles are published at Easy, Medium and Hard difficulty levels.
Tips & strategy
- Start with a region that has only one plausible domino or value combination.
- Use doubles and unusual totals as anchors before testing more flexible regions.

Can I lose a Pips puzzle?
No. The NYT help page says there is no losing, only completing the puzzle.
When do new puzzles arrive?
New puzzles are published daily at midnight in the player's local time zone.
