What is CardGuessr?
CardGuessr displays a single Pokémon trading card blurred beyond readability and asks you to name it. The page shows the title, the word Pokémon, the blurred card, five attempt markers, a text field reading "Type a card name…", and Guess and Give up buttons.
How to play CardGuessr
- Examine the blurred card image for color zones and layout patterns.
- Type a card name into the field and press Guess. The counter shows "Guess 1/5" and the five markers above track your attempts.
- Use up to five guesses to identify the card.
- Press Give up if you cannot resolve the card within five attempts.
Why the blur matters
Collectors identify cards by their shape and color distribution, much as birdwatchers recognize birds from a distance. A heavy blur removes all text—the name, art details, and set symbol—leaving only blocks of color. The design tests recognition memory. The five-guess limit and sparse feedback make mistakes useful: they show when you were depending on text instead of visual memory.
Reading the feedback
The board shows only your progress. Five markers sit above the input field, and the counter below starts at “Guess 1/5” and advances after each submission. The game gives no indication of how close a guess is; it shows only how many attempts remain.
Tips for naming cards
Enter a card name, not a Pokémon name. A creature printed in multiple sets has a distinct card name for each version. Entering only the Pokémon species will not work.
Five guesses and a Give up button form the entire attempt budget. No hint system exists to narrow possibilities, so an unconfirmed first guess consumes a full fifth of your round. Verify your recognition before committing a name.
Common questions
How many guesses do I get?
Five. The counter beneath the input reads "Guess 1/5" and advances with each submission, while five markers above the field track progress.
Do I type the Pokémon or the card?
The field asks for a card name. A Pokémon species name alone will not match a specific card printing.
