What is Colordle?
Colordle is a daily puzzle that replaces Wordle's letters with hexadecimal characters. You guess a six-character color code using only 0–9 and A–F. The target color appears as a swatch in the header throughout the game, and after each guess you see both tile feedback and a side-by-side color comparison to guide your next attempt.
How to play Colordle
- Study the target swatch in the header to estimate the red, green, and blue channel values before typing.
- Enter a valid six-character hex code using the 0–9 and A–F keyboard, then press Enter.
- Read the tile colors for character placement and compare the Last guess swatch against the target to judge channel direction.
- Solve the code within six rows. A new Colordle is published each day.
Why the dual feedback matters
Colordle requires two skills working together. The tile colors follow Wordle rules—green for correct character and position, yellow for correct character in the wrong position, grey for absent—while the swatch comparison operates visually. A designer who reads hex fluently can approximate the answer by interpreting the color gap. A player unfamiliar with hex can still narrow the code through tile elimination. The puzzle rewards both methods and asks you to merge them.
Reading hex as three channels
Hex codes are three two-character pairs representing red, green, and blue. A yellow tile in position 3 and another in position 4 belong to the same color channel. When you see yellows clustered in a pair, you know those two characters appear somewhere in that channel but are currently misplaced. Keep the channel structure in mind when interpreting feedback rather than treating each character independently.
Tips for solving efficiently
Start with a guess that isolates the channels, such as FF0000 or 00FF88. The first result will show which channels run high and which run low, giving you a map for the remaining guesses.
Trust the swatch when tiles suggest you are far from the answer. A code can be one character off and produce a nearly identical color, meaning the visual gap is smaller than the grey tiles imply.
Pay attention to character pairs rather than individual positions. If two yellows fall in positions 1 and 2, both belong to the red channel and will move together in your next guess.
Modes and progress tracking
The game offers one daily color shared by all players. A statistics panel behind the chart icon records your solve history and streak across days. Progress is stored locally in the browser, so keep the same session to retain your results.
