What is DSMdle?
DSMdle presents a clinical case each day and asks players to identify the most likely DSM-5 diagnosis. The opening clue is a one-sentence patient description covering the person’s age, reason for referral, and observable symptoms. Each wrong answer reveals a more specific clue.
The game is aimed at psychology students and clinicians. It includes a prominent warning that its cases are AI-generated and simplified, and credits Luis Flores and Susana Rios. DSMdle is available in English and Spanish.
How to play DSMdle
- Read the first clue, an initial clinical presentation.
- Type the DSM-5 diagnosis you consider most likely into the search field, then tap Submit.
- If incorrect, a new clue appears that is more specific than the previous one, and the round continues.
- Complete the case within six attempts, then share your result or return the next day for a new patient.
Why the format works
The Wordle structure applied to a clinical vignette delivers information the way a real case file unfolds. Each additional clue feels like data arriving later in an intake. For students, it is a review of DSM-5 nomenclature disguised as a game, provided the site's warning about the nature of the cases is taken seriously.
Reading the feedback
The clue number and attempt count advance together. Each case starts at CLUE 1 with 0/6 attempts. A wrong answer reveals the next clue, so an error changes how much information you have. After solving a case, you can share your result and return the next day.
Classic and Hard are the two options in the selector on the page. The Archive link opens cases from previous days.
Treat each case as a quiz rather than a clinical exercise. The site notes that its vignettes are AI-generated and simplified, so they do not include all the subtleties of a real interview.
Clues move from general to specific, so the first attempt gives you little information. An early diagnosis that seems plausible advances the case by revealing another clue.
The ES button switches the game to Spanish, which may help if you are more familiar with the diagnostic vocabulary in that language.
Can DSMdle be used to make a diagnosis?
No. The site stresses that cases are AI-generated, simplified, and not clinically validated. It specifies that it is neither a clinical or diagnostic tool nor medical advice, and directs users to a healthcare professional in case of concern.
Is the game available in a language other than English?
Yes. An ES button and an Español link switch the game to Spanish.
