What is Gamedle?

Gamedle runs five daily puzzles side by side, each asking you to identify a video game through a different lens. Cover shows box art and is marked easy. Artwork, Characters and Keywords sit at medium difficulty, working from concept art, a single character and a set of descriptive words. Guess is marked hard: you get only the game's attributes and must reason your way to the title. Three modes also run as endless versions, and a themed weekly puzzle appears underneath. The site has been running since 2022 and shows a countdown to the next day's set.

How to play

  1. Pick a mode by difficulty: Cover for easy, Artwork, Characters or Keywords for medium, Guess for hard.
  2. Name a video game. A wrong answer reveals more of the image or another attribute.
  3. Work down the ladder. Solving Cover often gives the day's theme, which helps on the harder modes.
  4. Switch to an unlimited mode when the five dailies are done, or take the weekly puzzle.

Why play Gamedle?

The graded ladder is the point. Most guessing games have one difficulty and you either know the answer or you do not. Here the same day's roster is served five ways, so an easy Cover win and a failed Guess tell you something real about how well you actually know a title. Recognising a box is not the same as knowing its genre, engine and release window. The unlimited modes turn the best of those into practice rather than a one-shot, and a global solve percentage under each mode shows how the rest of the players fared before you start.

Modes

Cover: Easy. Name the game from its box art.

Artwork: Medium. Name the game from a piece of its concept or promotional art.

Characters: Medium. Identify the game from one of its characters.

Keywords: Medium. Identify the game from a set of descriptive words.

Guess: Hard. Only the game's attributes are given, no image at all.

Unlimited: Endless versions of the Cover, Keywords and Guess modes, playable outside the daily.

Weekly: A themed weekly puzzle. One week was built around games to play with friends.

Reading the feedback

Each mode has its own way of answering: in the visual modes, the image reveals more with every wrong guess; in Guess, you receive verdicts on individual attributes, and the clue set forms the entire puzzle. Beneath each daily tile, the site shows the percentage of players who solved it, giving the difficulty labels a live number behind them. A countdown in the header shows how long remains until the next set.

Tips & strategy

Play Cover first, even though it is the easiest mode. The five dailies often share an era or genre, and confirming one answer can narrow down the others.

In Guess, use the attributes as a filter. A release year and a genre can eliminate most of the catalogue before you consider any specific title.

The solve percentage under each mode gives you a useful sense of the day's difficulty. A low figure for Artwork means the image is genuinely obscure.
