What is Hertl?
Hertl is a daily game where you identify an active NHL player. You have eight guesses to find the mystery player. After each guess, the game compares the players’ team history, age, jersey number, and other properties. A new mystery player appears each day at midnight EST.
How to play Hertl
- Enter an active NHL player as your first guess.
- Check the colored comparison boxes and the arrows for age and jersey number.
- Use the clues to choose your next guess until you identify the target within eight tries.
Reading the feedback
Each guess shows how close it is to the mystery player. Green means a match, yellow means close, and gray means no match. A yellow Team cell means the mystery player previously played for the guessed player’s team. Arrows next to age and jersey number show whether the target value is higher or lower.
Daily Hertl is the standard puzzle, with eight guesses to identify one active NHL player.
The navigation also includes Unlimited Mode alongside the daily challenge.
In Silhouette mode, the SHOW SILHOUETTE control adds a player image as a clue.
- Use team history as a separate clue from a current-team match: yellow can mean the target previously played for the guessed player's team.
- Follow age and jersey-number arrows instead of treating those fields as simple matches.
- Start with a well-known active player who is likely to reveal several useful comparisons at once.
