HoopGrids
HoopGrids is a daily NBA grid puzzle with nine cells, defined by three row criteria and three column criteria. Enter a player in each cell who meets both its row and column conditions. The criteria can cover career periods, statistical thresholds, and volume benchmarks, such as playing in a particular decade, averaging a set number of steals per game in a season, or reaching a career points total. The search box shows how many players qualify for each cell, while the Rarity score shows how uncommon your answers are compared with other players. You can make unlimited guesses in each square and see the rarity score update in real time.
Playing HoopGrids
Open the daily grid and review the nine intersections created by the three row criteria and three column criteria. Select a cell and enter a name in the search box to see how many players meet both conditions. Choose a qualifying player; rarer choices earn higher Rarity scores. Lock in your answer and continue to the next cell. Your running score appears in the header.
After completing all nine cells, review your total score or switch to another mode.

Understanding Rarity scoring
A valid player locks into the cell, but the meaningful metric is rarity. Lower-picked answers score better because the game grades originality alongside correctness. Your running Rarity score starts at 0.00 and updates in realtime based on what other players chose. Stats and a leaderboard track performance across multiple days. The shift from guess limits to rarity scoring turns the puzzle from trivia into competitive curation.
Strategy for higher Rarity scores
Read all nine cells before filling any. A star player who fits three cells wastes value if placed in a cell a role player could satisfy. Train yourself to reach past the first qualifying name to the fifth or sixth, where rarity improves.
Pay attention to the difference between season and career criteria. A requirement such as 1+ steals per game in a season covers far more players than a career average, and the pool counter confirms it. Save well-known names for the more restrictive cells.
How many guesses do I get?
You can make unlimited guesses for every square. The challenge is finding rare correct answers, not conserving guesses.
What is the Rarity score?
Rarity measures how uncommon your answers are among all players. Obscure correct picks score higher than famous ones, and your total appears in the header.
Can I play more than one grid a day?
Yes. The daily puzzle is joined by an archive of past grids, a Speedrun mode, and NFL and MLB versions.
Do I need an account?
No. You can play without an account. Signing in unlocks stats, friend features, and leaderboard access.
