Journeys (Guess the Football Player) is a daily game in which you identify a footballer from their career club history. It shows each club the player represented, along with their usual shirt number and primary position. Shirt icons use traditional club colours. The player data comes from Transfermarkt, so some older or incomplete career histories may appear.

Each day features a different active or retired footballer.

Review the clubs shown, the shirt number most associated with the player, and their primary position. Enter the player’s name using an English keyboard. Common English spellings and name variations are accepted, such as Ozil for Özil.

You start with 100 points. Each incorrect guess costs 10 points, and you can make up to 10 incorrect guesses without using hints.

Optional hints cost points:

  • Club debut date: 10 points per club
  • Teammate at a club: 15 points per club
  • Nationality: 20 points

When your score reaches 15 points or less, you cannot reveal any more hints and must make a guess.

Understanding the scoring and grades

You start with 100 points. Each incorrect guess costs 10 points, and revealing a hint also lowers your score. When you guess correctly, your final score determines the shirt card grade: 100 is Platinum, 99–71 is Gold, 70–51 is Silver, and 50 or below is Standard.

You can then claim one of the player’s shirts for your Locker Room, which requires an account. If you do not guess correctly, you cannot claim the shirt.

Game modes

The daily puzzle shows a player’s club history, shirt numbers, and position. You must identify the player. Some puzzles use the retro “Throwback Mode” theme, featuring players whose careers were mainly in the 1960s, 1970s, or 1980s.

Tips

For foreign characters, use the equivalent letters on an English keyboard. The game may accept common name variations and nicknames, such as Hernandez or Chicharito.

Use hints carefully: each one lowers your score and can reduce your final grade. Once your score reaches 15 or below, you cannot reveal any more hints.

No account is required to play the daily puzzles, but claiming a player's shirt to your Locker Room requires one. Creating an account is free and allows you to compare performance via the site's leaderboard.
