Work from pieces that have the fewest plausible placements—corner pieces, distinctive colors, or unique edge shapes. Once these anchor points are set, the remaining pieces become easier to place because fewer positions remain valid.
Pause before using a redraw. The current arrangement already contains information about which pieces do not fit together. Resetting immediately discards that knowledge and adds a mark to your result card.
