What is Mini Mahj?

Mini Mahj is a daily game of American mahjong. Everyone receives the same hand and plays against the same three opponents: Rose, Ivy, and Lily. Each round starts with the Charleston, the tile-passing phase used in American mahjong. The game includes a combinations card, a wall counter, and a sortable hand interface.

How to play Mini Mahj

  1. Tap “Play Today’s Game” to start the daily hand.
  2. Before choosing what to keep, open the Card button and check the allowed combinations.
  3. Pass three tiles in the direction shown on the Charleston banner.
  4. Arrange your hand by dragging tiles, or tap Sort.
  5. Play against Rose, Ivy, and Lily, and keep an eye on the wall counter.

Why the same deal matters

Online American mahjong can leave players unsure whether they lost because of a bad decision or bad luck. Mini Mahj removes much of that uncertainty: everyone gets the same wall, the same starting tiles, and the same three opponents. A loss gives you information about your decisions instead of adding another random result. Games are short, the Charleston starts immediately, and the interface includes the combinations card, sortable tiles, and a visible wall count.

Reading the game

Mini Mahj follows the standard American mahjong structure, with a passing phase, a combinations card to consult, a wall counter, and three fixed opponents. There is no color-coding or hint system. The feedback comes from your hand and from the tiles opponents discard or claim.

The game currently uses its own integrated card while awaiting approval of the official NMJL card. A warning before the round states that a few 2026 lines may have been included. Players familiar with the official card should reread the list before relying on instinct.

Tips for better decisions

Consult the Card button before passing tiles, not after. The combinations card determines what is disposable, so checking it early avoids giving away useful tiles during the Charleston.

Reorganize your hand by touch or with the Sort button before the Charleston. Grouping tiles visually reveals completed or near-complete combinations that might otherwise be broken by careless passing.

The hand is the same for everyone, but the Charleston choices differ. What you pass and what you receive shapes the rest of the round, so the passing phase rewards deliberate choices over reflexive ones.

Common questions

What kind of mahjong is it?
American mahjong. The round opens with the Charleston, the passing phase specific to that variant.

Is the combinations card the official one?
Not yet. The game uses its own built-in card while awaiting approval of the official NMJL card, and warns that a few 2026 lines may have been included.

Is everyone playing the same deal?
Yes. Same tiles, same wall, same opponents for everyone, with a new hand each day.

Do you need an account?
