What is Paintiquity?
Paintiquity presents a mosaic of paintings and asks you to identify the single year they all share. Instead of dating one work, you date an entire gallery. The game runs five rounds, tracks your score in a top banner, and uses a slider that spans 1200 to 2020.
How to play Paintiquity
- Examine the mosaic and open individual works to view them full-size.
- Move the slider to set the shared year, then use the minus and plus buttons to refine the number.
- Tap Submit year to confirm your answer and advance to the next gallery.
- Complete all five rounds to finish the daily game.
Dating an era instead of a single artist
When an individual work is hard to date, compare it with the other works in the gallery. Works from the same period can help you identify the era instead of relying on one artist’s timeline.
Tips for a stronger answer
Find the most datable work in the gallery and use it as an anchor. A recognizable style or technique can narrow the date range for the other works.
Use the slider to reach the correct decade, then fine-tune the year with the buttons. Dragging across eight centuries is less precise than entering a year in the numeric field.
Open at least one canvas full-size before submitting. The tutorial places this step before you choose the year, so it is part of the method rather than optional exploration.
Gameplay details
The banner shows the current round out of five, a row of five dots, and your running score. The daily game stores progress in your browser under a session identifier. No account is required to play, though a sign-up option appears at the top of the page.
The slider covers 1200 to 2020. All paintings in a given round share the same year within that range.
