What is Patchdle?

Patchdle is a daily video game guessing puzzle built around patch notes. Each puzzle shows a numbered release date at the top and opens with a single patch line: version number and category tag. Six dots indicate the total clues available, one visible at the start. Each wrong guess reveals one more note, and a SKIP button trades an attempt for the next clue. The search field accepts game titles, and a new puzzle appears daily at 5:00 Oslo time.

How to play Patchdle

  1. Read the first patch note displayed at the top.
  2. Enter a game title in the search field and submit it with Guess.
  3. Interpret the feedback: wrong guesses unlock additional notes, while two specific messages signal proximity: "Correct franchise, but wrong game!" or "Made by the same developers!".
  4. Use SKIP when uncertain, but remember it costs one attempt to reveal the next note.
  5. Solve the puzzle within six guesses, then return the next day at 5:00 Oslo time or explore the archive of past puzzles.

Why patch notes work as clues

Patch notes can reveal a game's engine, studio culture, item-naming conventions, and sometimes even its internal ticketing system before the title appears. The six-clue reveal structure makes each guess a decision: a wrong guess provides more information, while SKIP formalizes the choice to trade a guess for that information. The two proximity messages discourage blind guessing by rewarding knowledge of franchises and studios.

Reading the feedback

Patchdle provides two specific messages and a progress counter. A guess within the correct series returns "Correct franchise, but wrong game!". A guess from the correct studio returns "Made by the same developers!". Outside these two cases, only the patch notes themselves offer guidance. The counter "x/6 clues revealed" and its row of dots track how many notes are visible.

Tips & strategy

  • SKIP spends an attempt to display the next note. Submit a plausible title instead: it reveals the same note while testing a lead.
  • The two proximity messages reward family guesses. A studio or series guess can turn a miss into useful information.
  • Patch note vocabulary often betrays the game through ticket identifiers, version conventions, and item names. The material matters more than the patch content itself.
