What is Player of the Day?
Player of the Day is a football deduction game built around league-specific player databases. You select one of six championships—Süper Lig, Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, or Ligue 1—and use five comparison columns (TEAM, NATION, POSITION, AGE, SHIRT) to identify the mystery player. Each league has its own daily answer, so you can play up to six puzzles on the same day.
How to play Player of the Day
- Choose a league from the selector at the top of the board.
- Enter a footballer’s name in the search box, then select the player from the dropdown.
- Check the feedback row, which shows five comparisons at once.
- Use the ↑ and ↓ arrows next to AGE and SHIRT to see whether the target value is higher or lower.
- Compare clues across up to eight guesses. The counter shows your progress as “Guess 0/8.”
Reading the feedback colors
Green marks an exact match, while gray marks a complete mismatch. Yellow marks a defined near match: the same continent for nations; adjacent positions for winger–striker, winger–midfielder, or defender–midfielder; an age difference of up to three years; or a shirt-number difference of up to five. On the Süper Lig board, the team column turns yellow when both clubs are based in Istanbul. The ↑ and ↓ arrows for age and number are independent of the color and show whether the correct value is higher or lower.
Player of the Day explains what yellow means in each column, turning guesswork into calculation. A yellow age box represents a three-year window. The shirt-number column adds a simple, high-yield dimension that many football deduction games omit. League selection lets you work within a roster you know instead of searching a global catalog, and you can chain all six boards.
Tips for faster solving
Start with a mid-range player instead of a headline name. A midfielder in their twenties at a mid-table club gives you useful information from any outcome. A nineteen-year-old superstar tells you almost nothing when the guess is wrong.
Follow the arrows. Two ↑ in a row on age or shirt number eliminate an entire slice of candidates, regardless of your intuition about form or fame.
On the Süper Lig board, guessing an Istanbul club tests multiple teams at once because they share the yellow threshold.
When stuck, test an unexplored nation or position with a guess you know will be wrong. Deliberate elimination makes more progress than another plausible candidate in the same category.
Can you play multiple leagues in one day?
Yes. Each of the six leagues draws its own mystery player at midnight in your time zone. The help window explicitly invites you to play all six if you want. Progress is tracked separately for each championship.
