What is Pokelingo?
Pokelingo is a daily Pokémon puzzle that challenges you to identify a species from its Pokédex entry in your chosen language. The game presents entries drawn from the series library spanning Pokémon Crystal through Légendes Z-A, offering up to five guesses per round. Language selection acts as the difficulty control: reading an entry in German or Japanese adds a vocabulary layer, while your native language reduces the task to pure Pokédex recall. Progress is stored locally by date and language pair.
How to play Pokelingo
- Select your interface language and the language in which the Pokédex entry will appear using the selector at the top of the page.
- Read the day's Pokédex entry displayed above the answer field.
- Type a species name and submit your guess. The counter updates to show GUESS 1 / 5, GUESS 2 / 5, and so on.
- Continue guessing up to five attempts, then access previous days via the "Past puzzles" link in the footer.
Game modes
Who's That Pokémon? is the daily puzzle. Read a Pokédex entry in your chosen language and name the species in five guesses or fewer.
Past puzzles lets you replay rounds from earlier dates. Find this option in the footer alongside the game rules.
Dex is the reference section, not a game mode. It includes the national Pokédex and episode-specific dex lists with species counts and type filters. This database covers each installment of the series.
Tips for better guessing
The language selector controls both comprehension difficulty and vocabulary load. A game started in one language is tracked separately from the same day's puzzle in another language, which means you can replay the daily challenge with a different reading experience.
Pokédex entries preserve original wording, capitalization, and phrasing from their source game. The writing style often signals the generation before the content reveals the species. Pay attention to tone and sentence structure for additional context.
Because the entry is the only clue, focus on descriptive details rather than attempting to brute-force common species. The five-guess limit rewards careful reading over rapid guessing.
