What is Size It Up?

Size It Up is a free daily browser game that tests visual scale judgment. Each round presents two silhouettes: a fixed black reference drawn at its true size and a white target that the player resizes by eye until the proportion feels correct. After locking in the guess, the true size appears as a red outline along with an error percentage and score. Five rounds form the daily set, with a maximum of 500 points.

How to play Size It Up

  1. Examine the black silhouette on the left. It is rendered at accurate scale, accompanied by a measurement line that marks the single dimension under comparison—length, height, or diameter.
  2. Drag, pinch, or use the corner handle to resize the white silhouette on the right until its size relative to the reference looks right. Zoom the board out if the target is much larger than the reference.
  3. Press lock when satisfied. The true size snaps into place as a red outline over the guess, displaying the actual measurement, the percentage error, and a short factual note.
  4. Review the result, note the correction, and proceed to the next pair. Complete all five rounds to finish the daily set and protect the streak.
  5. Scores are awarded by closeness: within 6 percent earns 100 points, within 12 percent earns 90, within 20 percent earns 78, within 33 percent earns 62, a factor of two earns 45, a factor of three earns 30, and five times or worse earns zero. The daily maximum is 500.

Understand the dimension that matters

Each comparison focuses on one specific measurement indicated by the scale line. A giraffe is judged by height, a blue whale by length, a country outline by its longest span. Overall visual bulk or area does not count. Keeping attention on the marked dimension prevents the composition of the two shapes from misleading the eye.

The library currently holds 143 verified silhouettes drawn from openly licensed artwork. Subjects range from everyday objects and animals to landmarks, fifteen country outlines sourced from public-domain geographic data, and prehistoric animals such as Tyrannosaurus rex and megalodon. Each size represents an approximate adult or standard dimension taken from published references. The same object can serve as either reference or target on different days.

Modes and practical notes

Daily Live presents the same five pairs to every player, resetting at local midnight. Unlimited mode generates random pairs from the full library with no daily limit. Survival mode continues until a miss ends the run. Additional category-focused modes are planned or partially available.

Progress and streaks are stored only in the browser’s local storage. Changing browsers or clearing site data resets the record. The daily set is generated deterministically from the date and library, so refreshing the page does not alter the puzzles. Silhouettes are used instead of photographs because camera lenses introduce perspective and framing distortions that interfere with pure scale judgment. The game requires no account, carries no advertisements, and runs on both desktop and touch screens.
