What is The Ball Grid?

The Ball Grid is a daily Premier League trivia puzzle presented as a 3×3 grid. Each column represents a club or category, and each row defines a statistical or biographical criterion. You must name a player who satisfies both the column and row conditions for the designated season. Every player is validated against that single season's data, and all players worldwide work on the same grid each day.

How to play The Ball Grid

  1. Open the daily 3×3 grid and check the column labels (clubs or categories) and row labels (stats or biographical details).
  2. Search for a Premier League player and enter their name in the cell where the matching column and row meet.
  3. The player must satisfy both criteria in the grid’s season, and you can use each player only once.
  4. In Classic Grid, you can make unlimited guesses in each cell. Scores range from 20 to 100 points based on how rare the answer is.
  5. In Rapid Fire, press GO to start the 90-second timer. Each wrong answer adds five seconds to your final time.

The game provides immediate and post-game feedback. Classic Grid scores each correct answer from 20 to 100 based on rarity and displays how many cells are correct (e.g. Correct 0/9). Rapid Fire records your raw time, counts wrong answers, applies +5s penalties per wrong answer, and shows your final penalised time. Wrong answers do not deduct points in Classic mode.

Modes

Classic Grid
Fill a 3×3 grid by naming Premier League players who satisfy both the row and column criteria for that season. You have nine squares and unlimited guesses per cell. Each correct answer is scored for rarity (20 to 100), rewarding obscure picks; wrong answers do not cost points.

Rapid Fire
Race the clock to fill the same 3×3 grid. The timer starts when you hit GO (90 seconds available). There is no rarity scoring; wrong answers add a +5 second penalty to your time. The result screen shows raw time, number of wrong answers, and the final penalised time.

Tips for better scores

Classic Grid allows you to gamble on obscure players because wrong answers carry no penalty. Rare picks score higher, so stretch your knowledge of lesser-known squad members.

Remember the single-season rule. A player only counts if they met the criteria in the board's designated season, not in any other campaign.

Columns may be specific clubs or grouped categories (Big Six, Top Half, etc.). A player can qualify for multiple club columns if they appeared for more than one side that season.
