What is Angler?

Angler is a daily angle-estimation puzzle. Each day presents a turquoise arc between two rays, and you have four attempts to guess the opening in degrees. The game is published on Greatest Games and resets at midnight Eastern Time.

How to play Angler

  1. Look at the turquoise arc between the two rays. Ray length does not affect the angle width.
  2. Type your estimate in degrees into the input field, or adjust it using the up and down arrows.
  3. Click Guess! to submit.
  4. Read the color tier and directional arrow in the feedback, then narrow your range and guess again within the four-attempt limit.

Understanding the feedback tiers

Angler provides five temperature tiers that close the search interval:

  • Cold — more than 20° off
  • Cool — 11 to 20° off
  • Warm — 6 to 10° off
  • Very warm — 3 to 5° off
  • Burning — 2° or less

Each tier appears with a directional arrow showing whether the true angle is higher or lower. With only four attempts, these bounds matter more than encouragement.

Tips for faster solving

Use reference angles before typing a number. A doorframe sits at 90°, a diagonal at 45°, and a flat line at 180°. Place the displayed angle between two of these anchors to build an initial estimate.

For arcs that sweep very wide, estimate the smaller complementary angle and subtract from 360°. The eye judges narrow openings more reliably than reflex angles.

Modes and progression

The daily game shows one angle per day, dated in the header. The site also maintains leaderboards and stores your best score and streak in the browser under Greatest Games keys. No account is required to play, though the site offers optional registration and a subscription.
