What is Capitalle?
Capitalle is a daily geography game where you have six attempts to identify a world capital. Each guess returns the great-circle distance in kilometres, a proximity percentage, a compass bearing, and four comparison attributes: continent, hemisphere, coastal status, and relative population. It is one of eight daily games hosted on capitalle.app, and play.capitalle.app provides direct access to this puzzle.
How to play Capitalle
Enter any capital city and submit it. Even a far-off guess works.
The result row shows the flag, city, country, distance, and a reading such as 81% · SW. Below it are four attribute lines. A tick means your guess shares that trait with the target; a cross means it does not. “Pop: ↓ smaller” means the target city has a smaller population than your guess.
Use the distance, direction, and attribute matches to narrow the possibilities. You can submit up to six guesses. The percentage determines the colour: green for the correct answer, orange above 80%, blue above 50%, and black below 50%.
Distance alone would reduce this to a bisection exercise. The four comparison lines—continent, hemisphere, coastal or inland, and relative population—turn it into deduction. You know whether a city sits on water or lies in the southern hemisphere even when you cannot place it precisely. Six guesses against a pool of 193 capitals is a tight budget, and the orange band above 80% keeps feedback honest until the final guess rather than turning green early.
Reading the feedback
The percentage is the core measure. The game sets colour bands at correct (green), hot above 80% (orange), warm above 50% (blue), and cold below 50% (black). Cairo at 3,760 km returned 81% · SW and appeared orange, while Hanoi at 10,589 km returned 47% · W and appeared black. The attribute rows eliminate large sections of the map in one step. Learning that the target is in Africa, in the northern hemisphere, inland, and smaller than Cairo rules out most of a continent. Lose and the share card reads Capitalle X/6 above the colour strip, then offers a world map of your guesses with no spoilers.
Modes
Daily capital
The free default. One capital, six guesses, drawn from a stated pool of 193.
Hard mode, no compass
Locked behind the paid tier. Distance still appears after each guess but the direction arrow is hidden, removing the bearing you would normally triangulate with.
Practice
Also behind the padlock. The Practice button links to the shop rather than to a puzzle, so unlimited practice is a subscription feature rather than a free extra.
Tips for sharper guesses
Coastal or inland is the most under-used line in the readout. Roughly half the world's capitals sit on water, so a single cross there cuts the field harder than the continent tick does.
The population arrow narrows the field. If the answer is smaller than Cairo, you can eliminate every megacity capital, which is useful when the compass points across a crowded continent.
Access and payment
The daily puzzle is free and does not require an account. Practice mode and hard mode require a subscription starting at $3 per month; the subscription also includes the archive and detailed statistics. The share card shows a map without revealing the answer.
