What is Cartogle?

Cartogle presents an unlabeled world map and a country name, then asks you to click where that country is. The map shows borders but no text anywhere. A header displays the round number, the target country, and a running timer in seconds. You click once. The game then highlights the actual country in green, drops a red marker where you clicked, and draws a line between them showing the distance in kilometers.

How to play Cartogle

  1. Press PLAY, or use the link below the button to switch to hard mode.
  2. Read the country name in the header and find it on the blank map before time runs out.
  3. Click once where you think the country is. Your click is recorded immediately.
  4. Check the results: distance in kilometres, Speed out of 1,000, Accuracy out of 2,000, Correct out of 2,000, and the round Total out of 5,000.
  5. Click Next to continue. After five rounds, the recap shows the distance, time to the nearest tenth of a second, points, and your score as a percentage of 25,000.

Each round is worth up to 5,000 points split three ways. Correct awards 2,000 if your click lands inside the border, zero otherwise. Accuracy awards up to 2,000 based on how close you were, even if you missed the border. Speed awards up to 1,000 depending on how quickly you answered. A click 443 km from Poland might return 0 for Correct but 1,489 for Accuracy, which tells you that you knew roughly where Poland was but still missed it.

Normal and hard modes

Normal mode is the default daily set of five countries, the same for every player that day. Hard mode is a separate daily set reached from the title screen, with its own leaderboard, leaning on small, remote, or easily confused countries.

Tips for a higher score

Aim for the center of small countries. The 2,000-point Correct bonus is all-or-nothing, so clicking in the fat middle is safer than targeting an outline detail you remember.

Do not rush on unfamiliar countries. Speed is only a fifth of the score. A fast wrong answer on Tuvalu saves a few hundred points but loses everything from Accuracy and Correct.

Open settings before you start. The Topography and High Contrast toggles change how readable borders are. High contrast makes small European countries far easier to separate on a plain map.

Island microstates determine final scores. A click on the wrong side of the Pacific can land more than 17,000 km out and wipe out gains from three solid European rounds.

Common questions

You find five countries per game. The maximum score is 25,000. The map shows borders but no place names. Normal and hard are separate daily sets with separate leaderboards. You do not need an account to play, but signing in saves your stats and puts you on the leaderboard. You can replay the same day and receive the same five countries in the same order.
