What is Enclose Horse?

Enclose Horse is a spatial optimization puzzle where you fence in a horse using a limited number of wall blocks. The horse moves across a grid of grass and water tiles and escapes if it can reach any edge. Water blocks the horse for free, so your task is to place walls on grass tiles to create the largest possible enclosure within your wall budget. The game scores you on paddock size rather than simply achieving containment.

How to play Enclose Horse

  1. Tap grass tiles to place walls. Your changes are not final until you submit, so you can reshape the fence as needed.
  2. Check the score counter. It shows N/A until the enclosure is sealed, then displays the number of tiles inside.
  3. Tap the horse to preview every tile it can reach. Any gap in the fence appears immediately.
  4. Press Submit when you are ready. You get only one submission for the daily puzzle.
  5. After submitting, compare your score with other players and check the optimal solution.

Game modes

The Daily Puzzle offers one shared board each day, with one submission per player. Special tiles affect the score: cherries add 3 points inside the pen, golden apples add 10, bee swarms subtract 5, and portals let the horse teleport outside a fence that appears closed.

Weekly Challenge adds a separate board each week.

Past Puzzles lets you replay earlier boards with the prev/next arrows or the archive menu.

Community Levels includes a level editor and a library of boards created by players.

This is a scoring puzzle with full information from the start. The entire board is visible, and the challenge lies in spending your wall budget efficiently. The single submission rule removes the option to iterate toward a better score, which will frustrate players who prefer repeated attempts. A safe enclosure takes a minute; finding the optimal solution can take ten. The game is free but displays an advertising consent banner on entry.

Strategy for a higher score

Use water as a free barrier. Good openings hug a lake or water shape, because a pen built in open grass consumes walls on every side while the same pen against water costs far less.

Seal a small enclosure before expanding it. Once a pen is valid, its score is secured and cannot be lost. You can then enlarge the fence by making small, low-cost changes instead of risking a single submission on an unfinished board.

Check the exchange rate before extending. If pushing the fence outward costs four walls but adds only three tiles, the trade is not worthwhile; use those walls elsewhere.

Reading live feedback

The Walls counter shows your remaining budget. On the day this page was checked, the daily board provided ten walls. The Score counter reads N/A until the walls seal the horse in, then updates to show the number of enclosed tiles. Tapping the horse reveals every tile it can reach, so you can see leaks instead of guessing where they are.
