What is GeoGuessr?
GeoGuessr is a geography game in which you land in a Street View panorama and use visual clues to identify your location on a map. It includes more than 23 million locations, along with badges, tournaments, private parties, Creator mode for custom maps, and apps for iOS and Android.
GeoGuessr AB, based in Stockholm, runs the game. The company also makes Seterra, an educational geography game with more than 400 customizable quizzes.
How to play
- Sign up with Google, Apple, Facebook, or email.
- Choose a map. Start with the official World map.
- Study the panorama, pan and zoom, and move along the road to look for clues such as signage language, driving side, road markings, vegetation, and architecture.
- Open the world map, place your pin where you think the location is, and confirm your guess.
- Compare your pin with the actual location and use what you learned from the reveal in the next round.
Each round ends when you confirm the pin. The map then shows the actual location beside your guess, and your score is based on the distance between them. A miss costs points, not the run, so choosing the wrong continent usually earns a low score and sends you to the next round. Scores add up over the game, while the official World map publishes a separate average score for comparison. Competitive matches use a different system: championship standings are based on matches won, game differential, and total remaining health.

Explore the world: The solo mode drops you anywhere from New York to Bali. Place a pin where you think you are.
Play with Friends: Create a private party for friends and family. This feature is listed for Pro and Elite players.
Compete against others: Play against people around the world, earn badges, and enter tournaments and events on the path to the World Championship.
Daily challenge: Play one fixed challenge each day instead of starting an open session. This feature is listed for Pro and Elite players.
Creator mode: Make your own maps and quizzes rather than using the official ones. Pro and Elite include the mode; map collaboration is available only to Elite players.
Tips & strategy
Check the road before looking for signs. The driving side, line colors, and bollard shapes can narrow down the country.
A readable shopfront or road sign is often more useful than the scenery. It can reduce the search from a continent to a country.
Move along the road instead of relying on the drop point. The next junction may have the sign missing from the first panorama.
Zoom in on the map before confirming. Since the score is based on distance, a pin in the right city is better than one placed somewhere in the right country.
In tournaments and events, a quick, reasonably accurate pin can beat a perfect one made too late because the clock is part of the format.
Check your tier before planning a long session. Unlimited play, the Daily challenge, private parties, and ad-free rounds are all listed as Pro and Elite features.
