What is Guess the Menu?

Guess the Menu is a daily word game that asks you to identify dishes from a redacted restaurant menu. Each round displays a real restaurant listing with a photo, location, cuisine type, price range, rating, and reviews. The menu appears on the right with most words replaced by dashes, leaving only one or two visible words per line as clues. You type dish names into the input field while a timer counts down and a multiplier tracks your streak across five rounds.

How to play Guess the Menu

  1. Start with the restaurant context: city, country, cuisine tag, price level, rating, review count, and short description.
  2. On the right, inspect the redacted menu lines. Each entry includes one or two anchor words.
  3. Enter a dish name in the input field. The help and skip buttons are beside it.
  4. The banner shows your score for the round, total score, multiplier, and time remaining.
  5. Finish all five rounds before the timer runs out.

Narrow your guesses with the restaurant context

The visible restaurant details are not decoration. A two-dollar bistro in Bangkok will not serve the same dishes as a fine-dining establishment in Paris. The cuisine tag, price range, and location tell you which vocabulary to reach for before you type a single word. The redacted line gives you a category or ingredient; the context tells you which dish in that category belongs on this particular menu.

A close guess is not a wasted turn. The game states that near-miss entries unlock additional menu lines, giving you more clues without awarding points. This mechanic rewards culinary knowledge even when you do not hit the exact phrasing on the first attempt.

Scoring and feedback

A correct dish awards 10 points. An exact match awards 20. Consecutive successes build a multiplier displayed in the banner. The game sets a feast objective of 200 points across the five rounds. The multiplier starts at 1x and climbs with each correct entry, then resets if you break the chain. The timer applies pressure but does not penalize you directly; it exists to keep the multiplier relevant and the round from becoming a leisurely culinary reference session.

Modes

Daily Challenge runs five timed rounds with a shareable score and a leaderboard. Relax Mode removes the timer while preserving streak tracking, but disables leaderboard posting. Discover Mode is offered below the two main buttons and lets you explore restaurants in your own city outside the competitive structure.

Tips for a stronger round

Each redacted line leaves one or two words visible. That anchor word defines the category before you supply the full dish name. If you see "salad" or "soup," the context above tells you which variety fits the restaurant's cuisine and price level.

The country, city, cuisine tag, and price range are given before anything else. A casual spot and a high-end kitchen will not share a vocabulary. Read the context before scanning the menu.

Relax Mode preserves streaks but removes the leaderboard. It is the mode for learning a country's culinary terms without the ticking clock.
